Austria
is situated in
the heart of Europe.

The neighbouring states are
Switzerland and Liechtenstein in the West,
Germany and the Czech Republic
in the North,
Slovakia and Hungary in the East
and Slovenia and Italy in the South.

Austria is also called "Alp Republic" or "Danube Republic". The longest extension of the country from North to South is 300 km and from West to East, or better said from the lake Bodensee to the lake Neusiedlersee it's more than 570 km long. The area of the country is almost 84 000 km².
The biggest part of Austria are mountains and inbetween these mountains there are two significant lake districts
