Non-smoker Apartments / Grabler
Charakteristic:
Walk
act with caution
Catering:
Inns in the valley
Village: Gmunden / lake Traunsee, Salzkammergut, Upper Austria, Austria
Destination: The Kleiner Schönberg (small beautiful mountain) is situated on the east-bank of the lake Traunsee
Drive in a few minutes
from the House Grabler, Altmünster,
to Gmunden and then with the
ship to the inn "Hoisn"
or by car
to the end of the
road Traunsteinstraße
(425 m).
Walk from there
on a forest road
in about an hour to the serviced
alpine pasture hut Mairalm (789 m)
on the southern side of the Traunstein.
As alternative to the relatively
long tunnels on the first
part of the path you can also
use the path "Miesweg" -
a recommendable path,
built along the perpendicular
rocks of the Traunstein
plunging down to the lake.
About half a kilometre
before the Mairalm
diverges the forest road rightwards
to Karbach …
(walking time: two and a half hour
from the Mairalm).
Karbach is a
popular destination
with a small inn
situated near the lake
but it can be reached - unless you
don't want to shoulder
the exertions of a march,
lasting some hours -
just by ship.
You can also
make an appointment,
to be picked up
after the described tour
by boat / ship. … …
On the way from the
Mairalm to Karbach
you'll reach
a saddle-like hill
the Ranzen
(ca. 850 m).
Walk from this hill
about 1 km
on the ridge
striclty westward
towards the lake Traunsee.
Some rocks,
in the aslope terrain
have to be surrounded,
so walk with caution
especially if it's wet.
But after that you'll be
on a small, inconspicuous,
summit Kleiner Schönberg
(895 m), visited just
people who love specialities
.
Here you can enjoy
the wonderful views
over the landscape
and the south edge
of the Traunstein.
A shorter way leads
from the above mentioned
"Miesweg" almost
directly
and thus relatively rampant
450 highmeters
up to this
solitary summit.
