Map of the region

Village:
Gosau,
Salzkammergut,
Upper Austria,
 Austria

Destination:
The Gosaukamm
is a towering,
deeply fissured
mountain range,
situated between
the Salzkammergut
and the
valley Ennstal

Go by car from the
House Grabler, Altmünster,
in about an hour
via Bad Ischl to the back end
of the valley Gosautal

A walk round the
lake Gosausee
(one and a half hour)
or a walk from the
Vorderer Gosausee (937 m) via the
alpine pasture Holzmeisteralm
(976 m), to the lakes Gosaulacke
and Hinterer Gosausee
(Hohe Holzmeisteralm, 1164 m)
- 3 hours from the car -
are an unforgettable experience.

If you’d like to walk more uphill,
then take the path which leads from the
lake Vorderer Gosausee (937 m)
through the forest up to the
mountain hut Gablonzerhütte
(1522 m) on the alpine pasture
Zwieselalm – one and a half hour
walking time

You can reach this point
also comfortable by
cable car

Here you have excellent
possibilities for hikes and
stops with a great view
of the pinnacles of the
Gosaukamm

and of the Dachstein
wit the Gosau glacier

Walk from here to the
north-western summit
of the Gosaukamm, the
Donnerkogel (2054 m) -
walking time: 2 hours

The Donnerkogel is a
marvellous summit with
a unique view
to the High Tauern.

Also worthwhile is a
walk around the Gosaukamm
starting from the Zwieselalm,
but it requires standing power.

Walk along the west and the
south face of the Gosaukamm
via the alpine pasture Stuhlalm(1467 m)
to the mountain hut Hofpürglhütte
(1705 m) - about 4 hours
walking time from the Zwieselalm

The whole hike is an easy,
not dangerous walk
between alpine roses
and mountain pines and past
alpine pastures

Enjoy the wonderful view
of the Lammertal, the mountain range
Tennengebirge, the summits of the
Tauern, the summits of the
Gosaukamm and the Schuttkarre
during the whole walk

From the Hofpürgelhütte
the path leads shortly downhill
and then up to the Steiglpaß
(2018 m), the highest point
on this tour

Now, you walk downhill -
about 3 hours via the
Scharwandalm to the
lake Gosausee

The whole walking time
for this hike is
between 8 and 9 hours.

If you make a two-days tour
and stay for the night
in a hut the whole tour
will be a great pleasure
and easy

You can make also a crossing
from the Hofpürglhütte (1705 m),
which leads more to a
high alpine but not difficult area

This path also leads
back to the starting point,
but plan an additional day
for it:

Walk from the Linzerweg
via the Reißgangscharte (1952 m)
to the mountain hut Adamekhütte
(2196 m) under the Gosau glacier
on the Dachstein (4 to 5 hours)

Of course, you can start
from the Adamekhütte further crossings
or climb the summit of the
Hoher Dachstein

But, our hint for the hike
leads you back to the car,
so take the path downhill to the
Obere Holzmeisteralm (1168 m)
by the lake Hinterer Gosausee
(2 hours walking time)
and walk from there to the lake
Vorderer Gosausee (3 hours)
