Map of the region

Grünau im Almtal
Salzkammergut,
Upper Austria, Austria

  Destination:

The hut Almtalerhaus
and the lakes Ödseen
are situated in a
very romantic valley,
the Hetzau
in the northern
Totes Gebirge

Drive by car from the
House Grabler, Altmünster,
in about 45 minutes
to Grünau im Almtal

Grünau - The starting point to the lakes Ödseen

In the middle of the village
the road divides
and leads into two
different valleys.

Grünau im Almtal

Follow the road on the right
towards the lake Almsee
and after about 10 km
you'll arrive at the inn
„Jagersimmerl“

The famous inn Jagersimmerl

Here begins the road to the mountain hut
Almtalerhaus;
walking time:
one and a half hour

From the Jagersimmerl towards the hut Almtalerhaus

You can go there also by car
- but unfortunately not all the year round

The hut Almtalerhaus

From the hut Almtalerhaus it's just
an hour of unhurried walk
to the lakes Ödseen;
if you like you can
also walk around them

A further destination
from this starting point and
also a wonderful point of view
is the „Herrentisch“ (897 m)
on the „Ring“

The Herrentisch on the Ring

The "Ring"
is one of the long crossings
between the valley Almtal and Steyrling

The Ring is a crossing from the valley Almtal to Steyrling

You'll reach the "Herrentisch"
in about 1 hour of easy walk
from the hut Almtalerhaus.

The Herrentisch a good point of view at this walk

For experienced and
good mountaineers
is the hut Almtalerhaus
the starting point . . .

The Almtalerhaus is a starting point for wonderful mountain-tours
. . . for a tour to the hut
Welserhütte (3 hours)
and up the Großer Priel (5 hours)
as well as for longer
crossings in the Totes Gebirge
Großer Priel

Even if you don't have as much
ambitions for mountains,
a walk between the rocks,
falling away upright at the
end of the valley Hetzau,
is recommendable
