Carnival


Carnival begins in the Salzkammergut every new Year on the 7. january and has his height on the so-called three holy days of carnival: Carnival Monday, Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. During the Carnival season there are many proms, Carnival meetings and processions. Traditionally the Carnival traces back to the Celts. It should banish daemons and everyone asks vor fruitfulness and a rich harvest.

Fetzen in Ebensee: On Carnival Monday is the famous Fetzenprocession in Ebensee. Because of the Parapluimarch and the reiterate melody the masqueraded "Maschkera" get slowly in trance.

Trommelweiber and Flinserl in Aussee:On the Carnivalprocession on Carnival Monday in Aussee you can see Trommelweiber, masqueraded men, in wide, starched nightdresses former centureis, who mock burgeois women searching during the nights for their husbands in the inns. Flinserl are friendly figures, donating kids nuts and fruits if they recite a quatrain. There are male and female Flinserl whose clothes are decorated with textile ornaments and silver geegaw (Flinserl).
