Now it's the time of the transhumance!

Transhumance - driving the cattle down from the alp, is the Celebration where the farmers and the sheperds thank for the good summer on the alpine pastures. It is in autumn, before the first snow falls. The animals were driven from the alps home to their pastures and stables in the villages. The alp animals and first of all the main cow are specially decorated. Because of nowadays changed situation (high volume of trafic, etc.) the animals are mostly driven down by lorry, but in some villages this tradition is still very pompous.

In the region of Aussee the sheperds distribute so-called Almraungerl to the kids:
pastry wares of flour, butter, cream, cinnamon and sugar, which are made with a wooden model.
The decoration of the animals and the Almraungerln are the signs that the summer finished good.
